Last Minute...

I need to whine a little, since I don't feel that I should complain to my boss.

The project that I am working on has a deadline of next Thursday. 90% of the work to be done rests solely on my shoulders. I don't mind. I know that it's up to me to make the 3 men in my group look good. I've been working my tail off, and even finding time to help out with 2 other projects that are in the red.

Here's the problem: I'm working 9-10 hours STRAIGHT to get these guys' drawings done. I rely on them to bring me markups or new drawings, and these drawings take time to do. But these 3 guys are waiting until the last minute to get work to me. They are constantly standing around talking about miscellaneous bull-stuff, completley unrelated to work. THEN the group leader has the gall to ask me to stay late. I'm there working for 2 HOURS before he even gets there!

Of course, if the package isn't ready in time, it's my fault. And that is a bunch of horse manure.

I need a beer :)

Hey Dad,

It's snowing.

As I mentioned, Bill has started school. We got him a great drafting table/desk from my work, and he’s all set to get down to business. He’s taking a manual drafting class, as well as a CAD class. He’s also taking a Computer Diagnostic class, which will be a big help the next time the computer acts up. He took a friend along yesterday to buy his books, and his friend decided that he wanted to go to school, too. To quote a Rocky movie, “Be a thinker, not a stinker” (translation: why break your back when you can use your head).

As for me, I’m working hard. I’m a “contract employee” working with the Industrial Process group at an Architecture and Engineering Firm here in downtown Toledo. We’ve got a huge project in the works, with at least another year’s worth of work to do. Learning a new CAD program called MicroStation, which is fairly backwards from the programs I’m used to. But I enjoy a challenge, so don’t think I’m complaining. In my “down time,” I’m trying to design a house. (The house I’ll build when I’m filthy rich: ha ha) Here’s a look at the front view of it, which was my starting point. By the time I’m done, I expect the house to be totally 3D and beable to “walk” through it.

First Day of School

Bill has started taking classes at Owens this spring semester. He has decided to study CAD Technology (the same program I went through), and so far has a lot of the same teachers I had.

He's excited and not looking forward to it at the same time. Who can blame him: he hasn't been in a classroom since... the early 90's (and that was in the Army.)

It will be interesting for me, to see what the curriculum is like now. I'm sure I'll get to help with his homework...

Not because I'm a Michigan fan (which I am, but keep reading).
Not because I hate Ohio State (which I don't).
But because I'm ornery and became a Michigan fan to "get the goat" of my OSU alumni/retired faculty family.

:) xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo Fortners!

P.S. I know that by the time anyone reads this, the game will be over. But hey, I'm me: I give people I love a hard time. They give it right back!

P.S.S. Ohio State didn't play any real team this year BUT Michigan. They played BGSU for crying out loud. USC would have killed them too!
